What are you running?... both the type of OS and the name of the program and where I could find it.

I don't know for XP but there are several out there that will replace explorer.exe for you. I looked at them a while ago, read years, and I don't know the stability they would have. Just google something like windows replacement shell. Try different search strings. anyway here is one I found...

What I am getting at is if there is no activity then the power supply may need to be replaced. Do you have any spares around? You may need more powerfull power supply to support the hardware. Is there any video activity at all?

What IRQ is the CD-ROM on? Have you tried disabling that and assigning it to the NIC?

Has the computer been kicked or moved? Has there been electrical problems with the house wiring /electricity?

Are all the fans on the inside going? Is the power supply fan going? Is the hard drive(s) whirring to life?

Home edition?

IS there any video output during post and boot? Is the video card firmly in the slot? Are the cables all tightly connected? Are there any beeps during boot? IF so, do you still have the manual for the mb? Were there any problems prior to this? If so what? Do you remember what the error said...

What OS are you running? M$ what? service pack what?

Have you looked at the event viewer? Do you have logging of these events enabled? What does the System log say?

I hope you take the time to read everything and make an informed decision. It takes a little work to get to where you need to be to make that type of decision.
