    Mac Hardware Question

You should be able to use any HDD with a mac, you just need to make sure it's the correct interface and size for the machine.

    creating a spanned volume (memory)

What have you got on the 900gb partition? If you are happy to backup everything from the 900gb partition onto the external drive, you can use a tool such as Gparted you can delete that partition and then extend the 75gb partition.

    Sound messed up with computer

Another to check would be in Playback Devices (Right click on the speaker icon in the toolbar), go into your default device and go to enhancements, try ticking the disable box and see if that makes a difference.

    NAS Advice?

Hmmm. That option completely slipped my mind! My only concern with building a NAS myself is I need something to be completely silent. Can you get a PSU with Passive cooling?

    Hobby as work is great....right?

I agree with this thread. For the year I was working with hardware my setup at home (hardware wise) was pretty pathetic. Now that i'm doing software/website work I've gone back into tinkering with things. Regardless, I still enjoy my work quite a bit!
