Computer Crashing due to ambient "heat"

OK, so I was poking around and discovered my installation was missing a driver for an unknown device called "ATK0110 ACPI UTILITY". Windows wouldn't automatically find a driver for it, so I manually downloaded and installed the appropriate driver and no crashes in over a week of hot weather...

Computer Crashing due to ambient "heat"

RealTemp is incompatible with AMD processors & the BIOS won't help me figure out temps under load, only idle. I'll try everest and see if I'm able to replicate the issue.

Computer Crashing due to ambient "heat"

Thanks for the replies, I've been on vacation and unable to reply to this thread. I believe the CPU cooler is a Xigmatek HDT-S1283. You can see the CPU temperatures are fine when these lock-ups occur. There is no bluescreen. I've checked the Windows event viewer logs and there are no...

Computer Crashing due to ambient "heat"

Where I live, the outside temperature rarely goes above 70F (even in the summer). However, when it does, the temperature in my computer room is probably 80ish and for some reason my rig freezes frequently under load while gaming, but only in these circumstances, which leads me to believe that...

    $700 Desktop

You can save $50 to put towards a better graphics card by going AMD with a phenom x4 955, or even more so by getting a 940. Those are the best processor choices for a gaming pc in your price range.

    Perfect Gaming Desktop?

Absolute minimum? No. Especially for the majority of games on steam.

    Building Gaming Computer... Good?

Why Core 2 Duo? For the same price, you could easily get a quad core system (i7 or AMD 955). LGA 775 is a dead-end platform.

My budget is 1k. Need some help!

It won't be as fast, and I don't think overclocking will work well

    Building a new GAMING computer

What about a power supply? You might want to consider perhaps 650-750W for that system.

How much power would 2 GPUs need?

It sounds like 650W would be fine, but we won't know for sure until we know what the rest of the components are

    New PC Build 2010

I dunno, I have a new ASUS M4A79XTD board with a 955 Black Edition and it works great. Get whatever works.

    New PC for video editing

Will he be doing audio editing or just video work? If he's going to be recording audio, then I would recommend a PreSonus Firebox. Otherwise, probably just a nice pci/pci-e audio card or something.

How's this for a gaming build?

[citation needed] According to this benchmark, the 460 is in a completely different league than the 5850. http://www.overclockers.com/gtx-460-press-kit-leaked/ EDIT: Upon further investigation, there may be some truth to this, here is a list of some benchmark links...

    Graphics upgrade

Did you read what he said? "I would go with a 5850 and flash it to a 5870 bios, gets you to within 5% of the performance of a 5870" It's pretty easy to do and will give you the best performance for the money.
