Can you reset all the BIOS settings to default, or maybe auto. I would also try if possible, a single stick of RAM at a time. Also, make sure the RAM is matched if required, mismatched stick occupying a set will create problems.

If I'm not mistaken Linux comes with Python, another option that should be installed by default. Python is a clean, simple scripting, OOP, language. There are a few GUI options should you want your programs to have one, Tk, by default, and what I prefer, wxPython. Enjoy, :)
