After a quick google, reading the specs on it, there will be more noise than a PC Im guessing. It looks like its an end of life product too, which is why its so cheap Im guessing? Before buying what could be someone else's junk, my advice is google the specs of the server and then the hardware...

Slightly off topic, but if it wont turn on when cold, how did you get it switched back on in the first place? On topic, there is no real logic that I can see other than a lose part maybe? I cant see it being a connectors issue as the machine would have to be quiet warm for parts to expand etc...

If youre a home user, Win 8 should be fine if your an office, Id hold off for the moment. Personally, the little Ive used Win 8 I hold it in the same regard as Vista - just not quiet as good as the previous O/s ... just an opinion
