Not trying to be smart arse but when i did sig it told me i had a max number of characters to use....and also says:

So is it ok to turn restore off? or how do i reduce the amount of space it takes up and is there any danger in doing so?

If you upgraded to Ultimate 64bit, then that come with a range of compatibility issues across all hardware & software.
1Gb of RAM is bare minimum but the recommended option is 2Gb.
1st I would check all your hardware and make sure is fully 64bit compatible. Also check that the game is as well...
I quite often have TV (thru WMC) running in top corner of my screen while doing other stuff.
