Audio from displayport

PC's do not output analog. They output digital. the quality of the Digital to Audio Converter can and does make the difference. Of course you'll never get anything better out than what can go in. If you work pc only outputs 48hgz @ 24 bit (which is not horribly bad) then find another device to listen to your tunes at work. Try this at home...set your audio for 48hgz @ 24 bit and listen for several hours (or a day or two) and then set it to 192hgz @24 bit and see if your ears can tell a noticeable difference enough to make you want to do something else for your work pc.

However if the PC outputs audio at 16 bit 44.1kHz or audio at 24 bit 48kHz the 24 bit 48kHz audio will sound better.

So what digital the PC puts out does matter.

44.1 hkz 16 bit is equal to CD quality, which is not that bad and the main difference will be going from 16 bit to 24 bit. But if your feeding that output into the input of a DAC and then a receiver, it makes a difference. Vintage receivers were not known for having good built in DAC because they really did not need them back then (if they have one at all). Newer receivers with HDMI would be built with a better built in DAC.
You need to go home and listen to 48hkz @ 24bit and personally compare it to 192 hkz @ 24 bit to see if it makes that much difference to you
