I recently installed windows xp on my second drive.
it comes up with a message which says
"Windows is starting up" for about 2 minutes
there is nothing else installed on that drive, why is it so slow

Hmm...that sounds like a fairly rebust computer to me. Windows seems to take a long time to boot for me actually. The fastest booting Windows OS was definitely ME...but that also happens to be one of the worst, so it is not worth it.

I really don't know...perhaps some heavy background service like System Restore is causing problems. Perhaps there is some corruption somewhere...

hmmm
me thinks it might be corrupted too
while installing i had faced some problems
i will install again and see what happens

Most of the time, long loading times are caused by Profile issues. Are you using this computer as part of a domain? or its the only computer you have at home.

What do you have on the startup?
You can use MSCONFIG to see what is being loaded.
Start > Run > MSCONFIG ; Click on the Start Up Tab.

Let us know whats up.

Also, there is this software to help optimize the windows startup.
