I've got a XP Pro machine running on a Dell D505. I can log on as admin and it runs for about 20 min before BSOD. When I try the users login it says windows cant find local profile for this user and the registry is unable to read in or write, logging in with temp profile.

The BSOD is a driver issue. He said he installed a print server and then it crashed the next day. Trying to fix that now.

Anyone had this problem before with the profiles?

I had this exact same problem with the windows profile error and here's the solution that I came up with that worked perfect. Go into registry editor (start-run-"regedit") and go through the following steps:
->HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
->SOFTWARE
->Microsoft
->Windows NT
->Current Version
->Profile List.
Find which folder has your user name in it and change the
ProfileImagePath back to your old user name.
Make sure you do this while logged in as another user.
Restart your computer and wham, you're done.

You can actually run that registry "fix" while logged in as that user so long as you reboot imediately.

We use this procedure on a regular basis to fix a profile "corruption" issue with Novell/Windows 2000 and it works very nicely.
