Upgrading to Vista, the checklist

Okay I finally got my 500gb external harddrive and now am ready to upgrade to windows vista.

Can I trust window's vista's software on transferring the files from my current computer to my external harddrive?

What other things can I do?

You should transfer your files using Windows Easy Transfer. If your "other" computer is an XP machine you might need this

Vista has a new backup feature you can even schedule for regular automatic backups of data. There you can designate the drive and day of the week. The one sure way to insure all files are safely backed up on the external drive would be the manual method of copy and paste. Creating file archives like zip and iso files allows for file compression and easier transfers.
