missing files?

Hey all,
I'm having a problem with windows. Once I get my PC running everything seems to run great. The problem I'm having is that my PC will not start unless I have the windows disk in the the dvd drive. If the disk is not in the drive all I get is a black screen asking me to install an operating system and restart.

I'm sure I'm missing a file somewhere, but I don't know what.

check your boot order in bios.

I looked in the bios, I didn't see anything that I might have to be changed. What exactly is it that I'm looking for?

you want to make sure your hard drive is listed as a boot device.

you can also try to reset cmos.

Have you tried to repair the boot? With XP the fixboot and fixmbr command and with Vista do that Startup Recovery.
