usb 1.1 and 2.0 transfers like night and day?

Ok just spent like almost 2 hours transfering 5.0gb of video and music to my ipod using usb 1.1 and his computer which is slightly worse then mine. I now go to take the music and video and put it all on my pc and it took a little over 5 minutes. Lol is 1.1 and 2.0 THAT BIG OF A DIFFERENCE?!?!?
