Soundcard Slowdown possible?

Ok, so after I installed my New Soundblaster Audigy 2 I started playing Halflife 2. Last time I played it was with my onboard sound. When I started playing it with the card, I noticed a little bit of slowdown in areas of intense action. I don't think this happened with the onboard, not sure. My question is: Is it at all possible that installing a new soundcard could slow down a computer at all? I read that installing a card would free up processor functions, thus making it faster. Am I just being paranoid? BTW- I played HL2 at full specs before and after the installation.

It is possible to slow the computer down a little bit by taking up more resources on your system, But if you are using that spec I can see above then you should have no problems??

Have you tried searching for an updated driver??

Have not tried updating, I will though. What do you mean by taking up resources?

Mostly extra memory, but we are probally talking a matter of a few megabytes ?? Nothing much
