First of all, what's the advantage of a solid state hard drive.
Second of all, I see builds with one solid state and one not. What's the purpose of that? Run on one and save files on the other?

Solid state drives have fast read times on them. Great for Operating Systems.
Too expensive for data and write speeds are not great. That is why a second non solid state drive would be installed for a data drive.

SSD's aren't worth it yet in my opinion. They are way overpriced. The only place I would consider using one is in a laptop that is constantly subjected to movements, shaking, etc. as hard drives are extremely sensitive to movement. Also, new hard drives are really quiet, my new Seagate 1.5TB is nearly silent while my old 60GB Maxtor makes a loud whirring noise. SSD's will cut out the sound completely, but with a quiet hard drive you'll still only notice fan noise.
