Default socket question

i have a p4 2.2 ghz cpu with a 478 socket. i will be upgrading to a amd anthlon 64 3000+ 939 socket when i build my comp. will i see a big difference in performance? what will the amd cpu compare to an intel cpu?

3000 will run like a p4 3ghz but really run at like 2.2ghz or something like that. dont know how much of a difference you will see. What are you doing with the machine?

it will be an everyday and gaming pc. games like swat 4, call of duty, battlefield 1942

You'll see some improvement I think, although not a massive amount. When I went from a 2.6 to a 3Ghz I saw only a slight improvement.

The 3000+ Will beat a 3.2Ghz Intel in gaming anyday. Get a Winchester Core 3200+, which will run @ 2.0Ghz
