Single Layer to Dual Layer

I have heard this thing about where u can convert Single Layer DVD-RW 's to Dual Layer DVD-RW's. I have read about how to do it but nothing for my model of burner, i have a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-106D. Does anyone know anything about how to convert this.

In one of other instructions for another model it said to download some dual layer burner firmware and then flash the single layer that they have. So could i download firmware for the PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109 and do this or will this muck it up?
