We have 2 low buck scanners. One everything works and sounds right and the light is on but just copys a big solid black page to PC. The other one sounds like it doesn't know where it is inside it self, the light gets to the end and it sounds like a belt is jumping. Are these things fixable or is it trash time for them. TomW

give me a model no and manufacturer i can look up parts. but generally they are not serviceable , especially the low cost ones. you can go the the Manufac web site and see what parts are avaliable. If parts are avaliable you may be in luck. if no parts are then it is a whole unit replaceable.

Sorry for slow responce, The scanner that makes black copies is a UMAX Astra 2100U. the other one is a HP Scanjet 3400Cse. TomW

Umax, nothing i can find. HP as most of HP scanners just power, usb cables and power supplies. Most scanners are like this , until you get into the high level network scanners, they are mostly whole unit replaceable.
