Problem (sort of) with DVDROM

So, I think I've got a minor problem with my DVD ROM. When i insert a cd with audio or video, it takes a loooong time to load the media and actually play it. In iTunes when I insert an audio CD, it takes about two minutes to start playing a song, and another two when I want to switch tracks. Also, it makes kind of a quiet screeching when loading media. It plays games fine though. Any ideas on the problem, if any?

Try and clean it. Get one of those disc cleaners from Radio Shack that has those brushes on the CD.

I had a lot of problems with my NEC reading DVDs toward the end of its life. Cleaning it with one of those kits seemed to help, but in the end I went out and bought a new Sony (one of the Lite-on manufactured ones). With new DVD-ROMs going for $30 CAD these days, why not just buy a new one? Heck, a cleaning kit might run you $20.
