Power Supply

I'm an undergraduate Electrical Engineering major and I'm currently working on my final project. To power the system, I'm using a power supply who's specs can be found at this website:

http://www.smxpower.com/FSP300-60BTV SPEC.pdf

Since there were quite a few wires coming out of the power supply that I had no use or space for, I started cutting them back a bit. The only wires I left were 2 Red (+5V), 3 Black (Ground), 2 Yellow (+12V), and 1 Green (which needs to be connected to ground for the power supply to start up - labeled "PS-ON" on the spec sheet). Now that I've done that, when I power it up and connect the green to the ground (just like I did to get it working in the past), the fan goes on ever so briefly, and then stops. Is there a wire somewhere that would cause the entire supply to not work if it gets cut? I noticed on the spec that the gray wire is called "PW-OK" - can that have something to do with it?

Thanks a lot for any help you can give me.
