I've got a Blueangel Firewire 1394 CardBus PCMCIA card.

When I put it into an IBM Thinkpad (Model T41 or T30) running Windows XP it is not detected.

When I plug it into a Dell Laptop it works fine.

Other Firewire cards work fine in the IBM Thinkpad - it's just the Blueangel card that doesn't work.

Maybe it's the specs on the cheap Blueangel card just not quite up to spec?

Has anyone had similar experiences with PCMCIA cards working/not-working in different laptops?

Thanks,

Well I managed to solve my problem.

The issue was the Thinkpad Bios had a setting:

PCI Bus Power Management (stops the PCI bus clock automatically when there are no activities)

The default setting is Automatic. When I flipped this to Disabled, the BlueAngel Firewire PCMCIA card is detected automatically.

Obviously something's different between the Firewire PCMCIA cards where some can and cannot handle this PCI Power setting, and the Dell laptop doesn't have this option.

Thanks,
kidhazy.
