i'm about to get this config around thanksgiving time... what do you all think?

CPU Intel Pentium 4 530 3.0 GHz LGA 775 HT
Motherboard ABIT AA8-DuraMAX i925X LGA 775
Video Card eVGA 6600GT 128MB PCI-Express
RAM Corsair ValueSelect 1GB PC2-4200 Dual-Channel
Hard Drive WD Raptor 74GB 10000RPM SATA
Hard Drive Samsung 160GB 7200RPM SATA
Case Antec Super Lanboy
Power Supply Antec Solution Series SL450 450W
DVD-RW NEC 16X Double Layer DVD±RW Drive
DVD-ROM Asus DVD-E616P1 16X DVD-ROM
Keyboard Logitech Media Keyboard
Monitor SAMSUNG 997DF-T/T 19" CRT

total ~$1530

i picked intel over amd (even though i originally wanted amd) because from the sounds of it amd is only better than intel for gaming, and i'm not too big of a gamer. i also rear that hyper-threading helps a lot with apps like photoshop and premiere.

That system looks really good to me :p.. You listed a good monitor too. My dad has a 955DF and it is the best looking "CDT" I have ever seen. I plan to get the monitor you have in your list for christmass. :)

sweet, glad you guys like it :)

if anyone knows of some nice 240-pin ram please list it. i just realized the ram i had picked isn't dual-channel. 512x2 240-pin, ddr2 400 dual-channel is what i'm looking for.

thanks

very nice, but you many need a beefier PSU.. i'm not sure though

i doubt it. i know someone that is a hardware genius and he said that 450 watts is overkill for me. i won't argue with him:p

Dual channel memory refers to having two memory busses on the motherboard. You just need two memory sticks.

In other words.. It's a motherboard technology, not a technology in the RAM.

i know. but to have dual-channel ram you must have the 2 sticks almost perfectly matched, and i'm not sure if the ones i picked are.

you guys tell me, which config would you guys get?

the pentium i listed in my 1st post, or this amd system:

CPU AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Socket 939
Motherboard Asus A8V-Deluxe Via K8T800Pro
Video Card Gainward GeForce 6800 128MB
RAM Hyperam PC-3200 Dual-Channel 1GB
Hard Drive WD Raptor 74GB 10000RPM SATA
Hard Drive Samsung 160GB 7200RPM SATA
Case Antec Super Lanboy
Power Supply Antec Solution Series SL450 450W
DVD-RW NEC 16X Double Layer DVD±RW Drive
DVD-ROM Asus DVD-E616P1 16X DVD-ROM
Keyboard Logitech Media Keyboard
Monitor SAMSUNG 997DF-T/T 19" CRT

it's the same as the pentium except for cpu, mobo, vcard, and ram.

if u can get the bit extra cash go for the 3500 64 it blows the intel away. also try and get the Corsair 1GB DDR XMS3200C2 Pro TwinX (2x512MB) www.overclockers.co.uk does it but www.newegg.com might do it cheaper. if u cant get these go for the intel system.
