Need Serious Help!

I lost some important information! And I need it back, the thing is it was saved in a .txt file and I recovered it using a "recovering program", but when I open all i get is weird characters like "Ʋ MZ" etc. followed by "This program cannot be un in DOS!" (its a text file...) but I CANt read anything!

How do I go about reading it in normal plain English? Is there a Way! Help!

I am not aware of any fix. Sorry. First thing they told us in my first computer class was there are two types of people, those who back up their work and those who wish they did.

you say it's got "this program cannot be run under DOS mode"
that is actually the remnants of a .exe file (yes, I have opened .exe files in notepad before)

either that means you're not looking at the original file, or it means your deleted file has already been overwritten on the hard disk. I'm guessing it's the latter.
