I would go for a 19" monitor with at least a .25 mm dot pitch, .20 is far better. If you do go with one of those, get the first one you listed from TigerDirect.

If you move NOW!!!

For an LCD your biggest concern should be the response time. When you're playing a high fps first person shooter it'll take 5-25ms to get from the computer to the screen depending on monitor.. If the response time for that monitor is to high it will cause things to draw weird and the screen will look blurry most of the time.

I was going to get myself 3 of the shuttle xp170as (i think thats the model #).. Best looking monitor around, plus you can turn them on their side and do portrait view.

edit: i just realize you were talking about flat screens and not flat panels.. CRTS are big and bulky and take up too much room.. You want an lcd monitor.

Stop suggesting LCD's for gaming. There is not a single LCD that will beat out a CRT. Period. There will ALWAYS be ghosting on an LCD, even if it is very little. Thesame thing goes for wireless mice, no matter how fast thelink is, they will ALWAYS have SOME lag compared to a wired mouse. These are the hard facts. Take them or leave them.

I have a mireless logitech mouse and keyboard, using older RF technology. Bottom of the line. I notice no lag (Though the click sticks if your over 4 feat from the reciever).

You get your facts straight. Wireless technology is faster then you can think or act.

However, I do agree: the nature of LCDs will most likely plague them with high speed game problems. However, some ARE alot better, and are capable of playing games on without too much of a problem. Granted, CRTs are better, but LCDs are pieces of crap in that spect anymore... besides, size could be his issue, and he needs to save space.

Blah... and I can't help. Sorry, don't know monitors well.
