a few of my friends have dial up and thier external modems dial silently, but mine is extremely loud, how do i make my modem silent as well???

start with telling us what kind of modem it is.Does it use a case speaker as the sound source?

What about double clicking the "Modem" icon in the "Control Panel"? You might be able to adjust your modem's volume level in there.

go into control panel and select options for you modem. look for a checkbox that says enable modem speaker and just uncheck it.

I hate silent modems.
I like to be able to listen to any difficultly when connecting.

lol, that the first mod i do when i install windows. disable modem speaker.

as u get used to the sound of ur modem u are able to tell more easily what problems occur when dialing

firstly, the sound seems to be coming from the actual modem
secondly, its a swann speed demon 56k v90 external modem, they made them in bright red and bright blue.
thirdly, ive tried going into the modem propeties and dragging the modem volume from high to OFF position and still it makes the evil loud sound
also i am using correct swann drivers etc.
yeah, well about using the sound to tell if theres a prob with dialing, i can usually tell by the lights on the modem.
