My girlfriend recently came across a cheap laptop, buying it off a friend who needed money. Anyway she wants to be able to play World of Warcraft, which requires a minimum 256MB, and the problem is she's got 256 but with the shared memory off the video card, she's down to 192MB.
So i'm thinking about getting her a gig, right now it's configured with 1x 256mb dimm. I guess I'm just wondering, I dont know much about putting memory into brand name computers since I always build my own.
Anyone know a good place I could buy either a 768MB dimm, obviously need to match the original ram, or a new 1 gig dimm. I'm not usually good at finding replacement stuff for brand name computers, and some people seem to find this stuff easy.
How many dimm slots does she have? If she has 3 (2 empy ones) then you can do a gig of RAM, but you'll have to buy a 512 and 256, it'll be seperately b/c no place sells 768RAM.
EDIT: I looked at specs, it said she has 2 dimm slots, so that rules out 1 gb of RAM unless you buy 2 512 sticks. Now you can buy a 512 stick and use it with the 256.
Most any 266mhz should work with the compaq(or HP).
Here are some 512 sticks, but I don't know about how many pins or whatever that the notebook has so you might wanna check that

Ya sorry last night when I made the post, I was a bit vague and wasn't thinking very clearly. even I'm amazed that I was talking about a 1 gig dimm for this computer

Also I'm surprised you think this card wont run the game. She's not looking to get any good performance out of the game. Just as long as it's playable, from what I can see off the box it seems to meet the minimum specs.
