I am reformatting a neighbors computer and just recently got a "keyboard failure" at boot. Could this be caused by my preesing F2 (to enter BIOS) too early during the startup process? I somehow doubt it; what else could cause the keyboard to work intermittently? The connection is solid, so it's not that...

Pressing the F2 key (or any key) too early or too many times can cause the system to display an error message.

It could also be caused by a sticky key on the keyboard.

What happens if you boot up without pressing any keys?

Also, does the keyboard actually work, ie have you tested it on another system etc?

Is the keyboard PS2 or USB?

Test the keyboard on a comp that you know works. Then you know if it's the keyboard or the computer.

The thing works fine, if it doesn't fail, so I'm leaning toward the "I pressed it too early" explanation. Hopefully the comp itself is fine...
