ibm 6 x 86 cpu

a friend has an old pc that has a ibm 6 x 86 chip installed (socket 7) and got offered an AMD K6-2 400 CHIP as an alternative. not sure what kind of motherboard he has because have looked and can't find any manufacteurs or model number. should the chip work without any problems or what do i need to do to make it work. have tried already and doesn't go beyond the memory test and then resets over and over again help !!!!!

if it supports the right bus it should run fine (find the jumpers for the bus)

AMD products use there own board. So does Intel and IBM.

You would need a motherboard compadible to that processor. I think that AMD would be a Socket A. Correct me if I am wrong.
