Computer DVD playback problem ... HELP !

ECS P6ISA II MoBo
Cyrix VIA 1GigaPro (600 mHz)
256mb SDRAM PC133 (Crucial)
Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 8 HD 40GB
Asus 7100 series 64mb (SDR) 4X AGP Video Card
Creative SB Live!
Sony CRX320E CD-RW DVD combo drive
MSIDVD 5.1 (is actually PowerDVD 5.0)
Win98

I've tried everything I could think of (swapped DVD drives, re-installed Win98, chercked all Bios settings/jumpers, DMA in Device Manager, etc) but DVD playback is still choppy. I noticed that the DVD drive is not writing to the HD during playback (called write-ahead?) but it does write ahead in my other puter (Asus PII400 system). Is it the ECS MoBo causing this or can some setting in Bios or other fix be made. Please advise.

ok, was looking for a new MoBo thinking the P6ISA II was the reason there was no write-ahead during DVD playback when I read in an ASUS forum about start-up troubles with A7V MoBo's. Well, one article said they didn't have a heatsink on the CPU and that could cause almost immediate thermal shutdown of the CPU. I have a PIII 866 flip chip and it wouldn't boot to the Bios menu. I also didn't use a heatsink LOL man that chip shuts down quick. So I'm now using the PIII and that solved the DVD problem. The 1GigaPro 600 mhz can't handle DVD but it works ok for other tasks.
Thanks for the feedback
