Bios won't detect CD Drive

I am in the process of building a computer; I have AsRock K7S8X mother board, 1.4 Duron processor, 60 gig Maxtor D740X hardrive, and HP 9100 cd writer.

When I connect cable for the CD drive to the IDE Controller 2 the bios doesn't detect the hard drive(hard drive is on IDE 1 Controller) or the CD drive. If I disconnect the CD drive the hard drive is detected with no problems.

Any help is appreciated.

Matching the jumpers is very important.The end connection is Master,and the center is slave.Most cd drives ship as slaves so have a look.
