6600GT w/ AGP 4X

Chris that would be great. I just want to know how much performance loss I'm going to have going with a 4X AGP slot verse the 8X, and then have that compared against the older 5700 and 9600 cards. It's my hope that the 6600GT is still better than the 9600 or the 5700 cards even at 4x AGP.

The difference between 4x and 8x, was practically nil for FX's and 9x00's, I don't know for sure if the difference will be greater for these new cards that are much faster. I would say though that it would be still well faster then the last gen's;)

ok, the FX 5700 isn't AGP 4x so the dude you talked to is an idiot.

Just get the 6600GT and upgrade later, or upgrade now and get the 6600GT later.

Point is yes it'll be bottlenecked, but there's no point in downgrading to something to meet a downgraded board

Thanks Chris! That solves the first piece of my puzzle. Does anyone know how that score compares to the GF5700 or the ATI 9600 or 9800 cards? I have a 3.06 P4, 512 DDR. If the score is still higher, then it's a no brainer to get the $189 card.

The 9800 Pro's were scoring about 6000, and the 5700's are pretty lame compared to the 6600GT AGP.

It's a no brainer, the 6600GT will work with your AGP4X, and give you future peformance
