Cannot boot off Hard disk

Upon start up things dun happen and screen says Cannot boot off hard disk.

The computer has been working successfully for about a year now so this is odd.

could be a problem with your hard-disk or your operating system installation.

do you mean it says that on POST startup (all the writing at the start) or does it go through to try and load an OS before it gives you the error?

WHat OS are you using? Sounds like the MBR is corrupt and needs to be repaired. This can be done with a repair install in XP (will not delete files or programs) or with a 3rd party program.
