New Rig Troubles

Hey everyone,

I just started putting together my first rig and I'm kinda hoping i could get some help figuring out if I did everything right because I keep getting an error after it runs for a few minutes.

The error is on a blue screen error with a sad face at the top and reads:
"Your PC ran into a problem and needs a restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart it for you." Underneath that is a QR code and % complete reading, but the computer doesn't restart. In fact, I can't even get it to turn back on for at least an hour after that.

I think it may have to do with the fact that I don't have a a cooling system for my CPU yet but my friend, who's only slightly more technologically inclined than me, says it shouldn't be a problem since the most CPU intensive task I've run on it is a browser.

Also, one of my drives isn't showing up on "My Computer".

I'm gonna list everything I've done, and if anyone can point out if I've missed, or done anything wrong I'd really appreciate it. So, here it goes.

I mounted my PSU, plugged it into a power strip that was turned off, put on my fancy little wrist band and clipped it to my tower. Then I grabbed my MoBo and put my CPU in and attached my MoBo to my tower. I plugged my MoBo into my PSU and then inserted my RAMs. I originally put them into the DIMMA1 and DIMMA2 slots, but got an error message denoting that they weren't in the optimal slots, so since then I've switched them to DIMMA2 and DIMMB2. I've also plugged in my front panel connectors, audio connector, and JUSB connectors. My hard drive is in my SATA 2 port and I have an SSD in SATA 3. To power the drives is used a single SATA cord plugged into the SATA 1 port on the PSU side and I used the first and last connector on the other end. I plugged my CPU power into the CPU1 port on the PSU and then into my motherboard. At this point I powered up and got the message saying my RAMs were in the wrong slots so I turned it off, and swapped em around. Then i turned it back on and installed Windows using an external disk reader. Then I started installing the drivers and whatnot but half way through that process I got the blue screen error mentioned above and the PC shut off. I wasn't able to turn it on, so I went to bed. The next morning it turned on just fine, so I turned it off, went to work, and finished installing the drivers. Shortly after that, the PC went off again with the same error from the previous day. Also, after the LAN driver installed it automatically went online, gave me and error about the driver for it, and since my wireless mouse isn't working.

For any of you heroes that might help me out here, thanks in advance, and sorry for the long spiel...

Post the STOP code message that it displays on the screen. Should be a message in all caps, with words separated by underscores. Or just use your smartphone to scan the QR code and post the link that it takes you to.

If you don't have a heatsink and fan for your CPU you absolutely should NOT be turning it on. PERIOD. You'll be lucky if you haven't done any damage to your processor by now.

Guess I should have read the whole post lol. I stopped at "BSOD" and didn't see a STOP code.

Holy smokes! Yeah, you have to have at least a basic heat sink and fan to run your rig. Although, I'm surprised it hasn't suffered a thermal shutdown event before having a BSOD show up. Has it ever shut off without any warning and with no codes and no BSOD? Even so, PP is right, you may have already damaged the CPU regardless.

The STOP code reads "WHEA UNCORRECTABLE ERROR" and no, I haven't had any shutdowns without an error.

Also, my buddy that said it was OK to run it without my cooler is about to get punched in the dick...

My heatsink should be arriving today. If it does I'll get that in there give it another try then let you guys know how it goes...

Yea it should work fine if the processor isn't damaged. I highly suggest stress testing it with aida64 or Prime95 to make sure it's ok after you get the heatsink on. And yea, a good punch to the dick sounds about right for that terrible suggestion.

Did you not even have the stock Intel cooler that it came with installed?

Give him a couple punches to the dick if that's the case :p.
