I've got a limited budget, with driving lessons and a baby on the way.

I have a Aspire 5920G which I use for work purposes and will also most likely use this new pc for doing some work aspects but the main purpose is for a FSX.

This is what I have at the moment, what I call core components. Everything else will have to come at a later date.

OCZ 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 CL 4-4-4-15 PLATINUM XTC
Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3 AMD 770 Socket AM2+ 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard
BFG 8800GT OC 512MB GDDR3 Dual DVI HDTV Out PCI-E Graphics Card
AMD Phenom 9550 Socket AM2+ 2.2GHz 4MB L2 Cache Retail Boxed Processor

What are your opinions on this setup?

Now people are going to be jumping down your throat about going Intel, its really up to you...

That build is fine and dandy, but here are my suggestions

Get the HD 4850, on Newegg is the same price as a BFG 8800gt Overclocked, and its way faster

- get the q6600 instead with a g35 chipset (it is faster and since Q6600's are having chokepoints with overclocking now, their OC'ing ability are pretty much about the same now.. )

or if you are stuck on AMD:

what you have is fine.. but with the HD 4850 is better

or you can upgrade to 45nm Deneb later on, and consider a dual-core (5000+ BE) for now

or a e2180 move to Nehalem also works

I should have mentioned I'm from the uk.

I will see if i can find them parts and price it up.

I do the majority of gaming on the 360/PS3 and sometimes wii.

I do the majority of my work (web design and programming on the Acer).

This machine will be used for primarily Flight Simulator X, storing data and some work.

I have a 8600GTS (I think).

Here is a different build a little more in cost...

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 Stepping (2.4GHz 1066MHz) Socket 775 L2 8MB Cache (2x4MB (4MB per core pair) Retail Boxed Processor
OCZ 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 CL 4-4-4-15 PLATINUM XTC with LIFETIME WARRANTY
Asus P5N-E SLI 650i Socket 775 PCI-E Onboard Audio ATX Motherboard
BFG 8800GT OC 512MB GDDR3 Dual DVI HDTV Out PCI-E Graphics Card

or -> One of these? Ebuyer - Cheap Computers, Laptops, Digital Cameras, TVs & more!

the p35 is a slightly older chipset. p43 offers better overclocking. i would just go with wateva is cheaper. prob the p35

Thanks for the help so far guys.

What about a 9800 GTX+;

GPU Speed: 738 MHz
Memory: 512MB
Memory Bit Rate: 256 Bit
Memory Type: GDDR3
Memory Speed: 2200 MHz

9800GTX+ is slightly slower, and is dual-slot, specs don't matter that much, you really could get away with any of them, just take whichever is cheaper, or whichever works better with the chipset you're getting (for dual-card setups for expansion)
