Default Best mobile hotspot?

I hope this is the right spot but I have a friend who wants to use a hotspot while travelling, I am not familiar with any good ones, do you guys have any recommendations. Thanks

That will depend on your phone carrier. I just use my phone itself as a hot spot and connect my laptop to it. But if you want a dedicated hotspot for multiple devices, it will not only cost for the hotspot device itself, but for the extra line in your phone plan. At least that is how it is with T-mobile (What I use)

I used to use a hotspot device but now I just use my phone. I can connect several devices at once and the up/down speed is pretty decent (depending on available cell signal strength). Older phones didn't have the ability to act as a hotspot and phone simultaneously but that's not a problem since 4G came about.

The one drawback is that the hotspot is a huge draw on the battery so I always make sure to plug in my phone's charger when using the hotspot.
