I'm sorry I guess I am a little out of the game. The last ATI card i owned was an X1300. But based on these benchmarks crossfire 4850s aren't that much better.

In 3dmarks they pummel though, yeah.

Sapphire will probably be weird and will make one, because they have the tendency to be the odd one out and make a non-reference card

we are not talkin about 4850's here, this is irrelevant.

i think it has been proven that 2x 4770's in crossfire out perform both the gtx 260-285 and the 4870-90 single card solutions.

4770's in crossfire out performs the 4890 by 20% on average and still consumes less power under load. according to this
First Look at Radeon HD 4770 CrossFire Benchmark - Expreview.com
they also discuss the possiblility of the 4770x2 ( me wants 2 of those)

on average when you pair up two 4770's you get a 80% performance boost vs 1 4770., not bad imo. and in atleast one case you can get over 100% boost.(read article)

That's really impressive. $200 4770s beats out a $250 single card by 20%. Good to see how much scaleling has improved.

since i have been a nvidia guy for years, i know very little about crossfire.

can you run 3 of these 4770's in crossfire? if so i may consider that lol.
