Default To dash or not to dash

I've seen many discussions about this topic but nothing really up to date. Currently what is the best practice for SEO, dashes in the URL or not?

Example: Selling green widgets so I choose a domain name with green widgets in it.

Which is better as far as SEO goes?

Don't dash it. Even though I think you are a spammer, maybe you're not.

Dont' dash.

If you do search for both greenwidgets and green-widgets, you will see little variability in the results. So do a search and see how many pages are coming up or use a search tool that tells which term is searched mostly. And go for it.

If you have money register both and keep redirection from one to another. So one will be main website and if people type second on in the browser, they go to main site.
