Creating a home network

I need to create a home network that can be accessed in two building that are about 750ft apart and they both are pretty much metal boxes which means not much signal is going to get out.

I was thinking that I could use a router in one building with a external hard drive hooked up via usb then use a directional antenna in the second building with a wifi repeater.

Would this work or not?
And what hardware would you recommend?

Yeah that'll definitely work, Ubiquiti offer some pretty nicely priced products, I think you might be interested in their AirMax range specifically. Just shoot them an enquiry with your setup details and they'll be able to confirm what will suit you best.

I might also ask though, what do you need the local network setup for? Just to share files?
