In some parts of Europe I understand that after you've been on a contract long enough; at the end of the contract the mobile company is required to unlock your device upon request. Here in the US that would be cool too; I guess we'll never see things like that in the US because there are too many greedy monguls around.

I saw that att will unlock phones but you have to jump through hoops to get it done
