swapping the microphone and headphone ports around

i recently damaged my 3.5mm headphone socket and was wandering if there was a way I could change the settings to allow the microphone socket to be used as the headphone one.any thoughts would be welcome even if it is to say it cant be done!
If it isnt possible, would it be easy to open up my laptop and swap the 2 around physically?

It cant be done and you cant physically move it around. you can use your microphone as a headphone and a headphone as a microphone though. basically your out of luck, if your laptop is still under warranty, send it in for repairs. It is very important that you remove your hard drive or save all your data before you send it out. you may lose all your data
