Help with audio?

So I threw away my xbox a couple of years ago now but the one thing I have noticed is that the sound positions on my headphones were far more accurate when using the console. Is there something I can do to help on my PC as far as sound position accuracy?

I'm no audio wiz but if you go to control panel, then hardware and sound, then manage audio devices, then playback, find the speakers icon, and finally advanced. Once there, if you turn up your hz output to the max it might improve your sound accuracy. But like i said, im no audio wiz.
