New Member, New Build : )

Hey guys, I'm new to forums. On top of it, this is going to be my first build. I'm building it primarily for games, but also day to day things. I'm most worried about not ordering everything of the same compatibility as well as not ordering everything I need. If you can, let me know if the build is put together intelligently and if not, what do I need to do in order to improve it. Right now the extensive use it will see will be World of Warcraft, Left for Dead, Call of Duty. However, I don't want it to become outdated right away either. In addition, I'll be running Windows 7 for the operating system. Let me know what you think needs to be changed. For the video cards, although the second one is a better card, I feel like the first one has the better warranty, and seems possibly more reliable. Just let me know what you guys think.

As a side note, that I can think of now, the case comes with the two 250mm fans already, so I only grabbed one 80mm fan in addition. Reviews were saying that the video card runs hot, but also that its super good. I thought the 3 fans would be fine, but I want everything to function properly so if I need more fans, let me know. I'm ready to learn, so let me know what sucks on this build, but please tell me why.

Few changes i would make:

I would get this video card:

The memory you chose is good, but there's a combo w/ your case of a good ram kit and you could save $10

Your power supply is very good, but it seems like a bit overkill and its also not modular... If you're not interested in getting modular then just keep it i guess, its better to have extra juice in case of future upgrades..

There's a combo where you get Modern Warfare 2 for free w/ that mobo and cpu you chose:

You could save money by downgrading the motherboard... not sure you need such an expensive one...

This thermal compound is better:

And case fans, the bigger the better since they move more air and produce less noise. Also look for fans from Noctua and Scythe, they're the premier fan makers.

Modular means that you can unplug the extra cables you don't use, that way your case is neater due to better wire management.

On another forums, people are against those video cards considering its a gaming rig. I was advised to get a better video card and downgrade the CPU in order to stay in budget. What do you guys think in light of my gaming selection right now. I can always buy a better video card later, but people are saying I should just buy a better CPU later instead. Opinion...I don't have much experience but I would rather get the better CPU but not if one of those video cards is going to hold me back on the games I play.

There is only a $29 difference between the CPU you have chosen and the top AMD chip.

The 5750/5770 are mid-range cards. They will game just fine. If you look on the Graphics Permformance List you will see that the 5750 is currently at #18 and the 5770 is at #14, so neither card is shabby. The 5770 is only a hair behind the 4870 and may very well pass it before ATI moves on from developing drivers for it.

I recommended the card that was within the price range of the cards you chose, but since i don't know what your full budget is i couldn't go too much higher. The 5770 is a good card and will handle the games you want nicely; But if you still want a better card, the next logical choice is the 5850, which is a good $120 more expensive, but if you can afford that then that'll be a really great card. Trying to reclaim the $120 from other parts will be difficult.
