Ok so my hard drive was getting full so I decided to buy a new 500G SATA hard drive from western digital which I planned to make my new boot drive. As of now I have a g31t-m motherboard and was using a PATA hard drive on my PC.

The problem is whenever I hook up the SATA hard drive to my motherboard it will not let my computer boot. The instructions called for me to run it as a slave drive and run their software to partition the drive. So first I tried running it as a slave drive but it would not boot windows. When that wouldn't work I unplugged my boot drive and put in my windows xp cd to try to format the drive and install windows on it. But either way my computer will not boot whilst the SATA hard drive is plugged into my computer.

I have no idea why it's doing this, as soon as I unplug the SATA drive my computer is able to boot from my hard drive or the windows xp disc just fine.

Any ideas why this happens?

Check your BIOS boot order. Make sure that the IDE drives are set to boot before the SATA drive.
