After 5 years of using my loud, crappy, outdated, and ugly system, it is finally time to upgrade. Not because my dad wanted a new one, but because it finall broke down.
YES!

I'll go right into the problem.
I ONLY HAVE $500 BUDGET!

I know that it is quite possible to build an average system with $500. So I came up with a system that is about $500, not including tax.

(I already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, and power supply)

arddrive - seagate 250gb $55 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148261

case - rosewill $30 cases (120mm back fan, 80mm optional side fan) (needs to support micro atx motherboards)
*optional fan - 80mm - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835150007

This configuration adds up to around $500. Too lazy to do the math.

I am so eager to order these parts RIGHT NOW... but I need to get some professional thoughts first, right? (I'm not kissing up)

I am really worried about the texts in red, basically the processor and the motherboard, probably the 2 most important components that should last more than, say, a videocard.
FYI I believe on Motherboard/Processor->Videocard->RAM->ETC upgrading theory.

Do you guys have any thoughts on my choices for the motherboard and the processor? Intel chips are a bit too expensive for me, I think. AMD should be fine, right?

Please, make a suggestion if you think my choices are bad. I would like both the motherboard and the processor to be around $100. And, don't worry if they are a bit more than $100 or if the total is over $500. Although I would appreciate it if they weren't.

Thank you for reading my long-♥♥♥ thread.
Hopefully, many of you will help me decide what chips to get, so I don't waste money!

-Mikey

(If you have any other suggestions on parts other than texts in red, please tell me!)

-Doh! I forgot about the RAM.
I was tihnking of a Corsair or OCZ or any other decent brand with 2x1gb DDR2 RAM around $50. I mean, i am seeing alot of these for 35~50 dollars in newegg. Any ideas?

None of the links for some reason. Anyways i would recommend this CPU.
Newegg.com - AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Black Edition Processor - Processors
It takes nothing to overclock to that processor that you linked. All you have to do is change the multiplier in the bios. No FSB or anything else like that. Also you never listed any ram. I would get some ram somewhere along the lines of this. Newegg.com - OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

Also the 8600 should be fine if you don't play very many games. If you don't play any games at all it will work great.

On the mobo idk. I don't really care for micro ATX. Always have been a pain for me.

some people like to buy every game and every other software product within reason, to keep the business going. i used the use 'other sources to get game but i now buy all games because the PC gaming industry is heading downhill and eventually there will be no pc exclusives.

as for the computer, i guess if your not overclocking micro atx will be fine...

Half that stuff wasn't even around when you were building, and back then in the budget section AMD was better, if you wanted an Intel build back then, you'd probably either have to stretch your budget or get like a super crappy Pentium D

before i read your reply, i already decided to buy the videocard and memory that you suggested.
also, I guess I will get the LG dvd burner instead of Samsung
i just had a little question about the motherboard
the motherboard u suggested had FSB (whatever that is ) of 1300mhz while mine had 2600mhz. is this a big difference in performance? i can spend extra 20 if it really makes a big difference. im a all-out pc gamer who is on a budget.
aso, i wanted to ask about the CPU. your choice seems to be moer expensive with less reviews. mine has a 4x winner of best cpu title, which made me choose it over other CPUs. are there any specific reason u picked the one you chose? please xplain! i am very new at building computers... thank you!
i posted this same thread at a different forums in the following link:

there are some discussion there too.. so yap...

oh and. also with the case. I had to spend 5 years of my life with my old system that was LOUD AS ****!! it was so annoying! i don't know what exactly it was coming from, but im guessing from all different old parts: one of them from the case fans.
I would really like it if my new computer made little or barely noticable noise. i see that your case has many places to attach a fan. is this going to be loud???

thank you for reading.

mikey

AMD- uses HTT
Intel- uses FSB, its different, you can't compare them directly unless you compare the difference of the CPU's performance, in this case the e7200 is much better than a 6000+

Reason he chose it,
- he's an Intel fanboy and always recommends Intel
- but its the better performing CPU and overclocks tons better
