Changing a USB port so the PC thinks it COM port

I've got a Toshiba 205 photocopier networked. I want it to also be used as a TWAIN network scanner!! Its been connected to a machine via USB. When I go into the properties of the photocopier its telling me that its been connected into the COM port. I didn't set it up myself and was curious as to why its been set to work on a COM port?!?!? Any info would be great!!
