View disk usage on server

I dont know if this is the right forum to post this in, if not please move it.

I need to know exactly how much disk space i am using on a server, i dont have access to the root, but i need to know how much is in the directory that i am in. When i select the contents of the folder, it only shows the total size of the dir, and not the size of all of the files on the dir im on, and the sub dir's of that.

Is there a way to tell how much total is in a dir and sub dir's?

You dont have access to the root you are one the server right?
What server is it? 2000, 2003?
