Windows XP installation error - setupdd.sys

Hello,

I am having problems with re-installing windows xp onto my pc.
I usually format my HD every 6 months (using a win98 boot disk), and have had no previous problems with installation. I have also not changed any hardware in the system.

I receive an error "setupdd.sys could not be loaded. Error code 14" when I run the installation cd.

Any ideas as to what could be the problem?

This is pointing towards hardware.

Since you said you haven't changed any, I would try the boot disks and see what happens.

sounds like to me you are not using the original XP CD, that's you need to 98 setup floppy to format, because the cd is not bootable.
That could be the cause and xp should also be setup in NTFS, the 98 floppy format FAT32
