Wired Router with a Wireless Gateway...possible?

This thread spawned this thought which occurs at random times...:laughing:

I've always wondered if it's possible to use a wired router in conjunction with a gateway's wireless capability... Such as in the thread above, it's a modem with one Ethernet port and wireless. From my novice networking background, it seems like it could; I thought I'd ask to see if anyone knows one way or the other (and/or why)...

You can, but then two different network makes it harder to file share and difficult configuration. Suggestion is to just add a wireless router and connect all computers through that, creating a single network. Turn of any router feature on the modem, usually those modem aren't really build for sharing an Internet, one computer connected to the modem through wireless can disable many other computers connected to the router.
