I have a brand new Acer laptop, WIn 7 HP 64bit, core i3 2nd gen, 4GB ram, 500GB 5400 RPM hard drive. I have about 300GB of music/videos. When ever I open Windows Media Player, it hangs for sometime and then becomes responsive. As I change from photos, videos, music, it hangs as well and then becomes responsive. I can go through windows explorer and open a file and it opens up fine. The only time it hangs is when I try to view the library. Is it that WMP cannot handle so much data?

You might have too many music / video files on the drive. If you have other applications, you probably have less than 40gb of free space. Win 7 prefers about 25% of free space to run smoothly.

Everything else runs great. I looked up the issue more and found that other people had the same problem. For some reason, if u disable "keep star ratings globally" it speeds up significantly.

also use the 64 bit version of wmp or use another player such as media jukebox.

I've reviewed some aspects of it on my blog to give a general rundown on some things I like about it.
