Win 7 can't join XP workgroup

I have an existing Dlink G network with a couple of Win XP laptops. Recently bought a new laptop with Windows 7, and could not join the existing workgroup to share files and printer. A little research told me that the windows versions are the problem. Is there any fix?
The Win 7 does connect to the router and have internet.

You have to either rename the XP Workgroups to the same name that Win7 uses or rename the Win7 to the XP Workgroup name.

I used the same "WORKGROUP" for both the XP and Win7.
They should agree.
