What is the best speed to write to DVD-Rs? (is 8x ok? or better if 4x?)

Hi,
I always had DVD-R media up to 4x...but I used to write at 2x...becuase I thought it would be better...(less errors or stuff) but then, I started using 4x...and, till now, nothing went wrong...
But now, I got 8X Media...and was wondering, is it ok to write at 8x or is it risky?
Do you recomend me to use 8x or 4x?

Thanx

the speed at which you write a DVD doesnt matter

SOME TIMES on a RARE occasion a bootable ISO might not work right and burning at a slower speed by coincidence fixes the problem.

but the speed doesnt matter. just burn at max speed unless you have a problem

i burn dvds at 16x and have no problems

depends on the bandwidth of your computer, if it has enough then it wont matter at all what speed you use, but even with burn proof and big read buffers you can still make a coaster out of a blank dvd sometimes if your system cant feed the dvd drive quick enough, other than that, no worries

your PIII might not handle 16x or even 8x, your other system should be ok

8x is roughly 9mb per second

Rawan, back in the early days of DVD burning, what you describe is true. With decent computer hardware, software and blank media, you can burn at much higher speeds without too many problems. I burn everything at the fastest speed supported by my burner and the blank media.
